Since I`ve gone from WinME to WinXP Pro all non-standard audio and video codecs (divx) disappeared from compression window of VirtualDub. The codecs are present in Control Panel, I can watch films, compress DVD using Gordian Knot (that uses VirtualDub), but where are my codecs? I tried to reinstall codecs - nothing changes.

I'm using WinXP Pro here too and have never had any problems with the codecs in VDub. They are just there! So really don't know what can be your problem. Try searching through the forums for any WinXP related topics.

I have the same problem here. VirtualDub 1.4.9 worked flawlesly with Divx3.11a and 4.12 but since I installed that bloody DivX 5.0 all codecs has simply disapeared from the codecs list in VirtualDub. Still showing in the XP Control Panel but not in the VirtualDub. I am not going to reinstall XP after 6 month of impecable operation just for the sake of the VirtualDub but... Damn- with Divx5!
I tried deinstall, reinstall, manually deleting registry keys, praying, cursing, voodoo, sacrificing virgin in front of PC... Nothing. Damn!

i didn't install divx5, but had a similar problem. codecs disappearing from vdub, but appearing on control pannel.
i think it has something to do with drivers installations. i installed btwincap (generic capture driver), divx4.11, xvid.
BUT fortunately for me, they came back, don't know how. i was tweaking with the 'source' tab on 'video' menu of vdub (btwincap features) when in capture mode. i also ran amcap (the capture app that comes from the page of btwincap, and is originally from directx8.1 sdk) and played with different preview pins and capture pis. i rebooted few times. and somehow they came back.
also, remember that in vdub, codecs that don't support specific pixel format (i.e. yv12) are not shown in the codecs list.
BUT, indeed there's a problem, most codecs did dissappear at least for some time. if someone will pinpoint this problem, i'd also like to hear about it.

Thanks for the replies, I thought it happened in my system only. I installed WinXP Pro on second computer, installed codecs and then I first run VirtualDub - the codecs were present! But every codec I installed after was absent. May be the solution is in editing registry keys manually, I don`t know how to do that.
