I have used IFOEDIT and REMPEG to rip down 13 ghosts, removing the unwanted languages and subs, then rempeged to 90% but the video when remuxed is very blocky . Any ideas, this is a Warner Film I have heard some of these can be difficult.

Thanks in advance

1) you used REMPEG...what were you thinking

2) WB movies are usually interelaced thus why proving a little difficult..but i just did this movie in 5 minutes...you could just leave everything and leave out the extras, then it's small enough :)

3) start using CCE ;)

problem has already been solved, here is what u do:

You will notice after you rip the video out and transcode it with re-empeg no matter what percentage, u will get EXTREME blockyness.

FIX:

Use VOBEDIT, found in derrow's web site and follow his instructions for demuxing cells. 2nd, you will see after ripping out the cells that the beginning ones are only around 20 megs in length. These are the cells that ruin the whole movie. Simply go into IFOEDIT and follow the instructions on derrow's site for splitting the DVD into 2 discs. Now you wont be actually keeping the first disc which contains the bad cells... So split the DVD at the point where the good cells start, usually they are over 100megs. Thats how i differ between them.

Next after you have a new DVD started, take out the video and remux again, yet only go for about 10 mins remuxing, you should be able to cut it off and test the video there, if it is good, you split at the right cell, if not, go back and rip the first cell again.

Now if this happens no matter what, simply demux the movie with VOBEDIT by cell IDs, and transcode each specific cell to determine which ones will give you problems. Any way you look at it, if the cell comes out bad, dont remux it. I would recommend the first idea i gave, then goto this idea. This one takes far more time.

Hopefully Derrow could give us a HOW-TO on this, or anyone for that matter. It also happens with the movies, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back and Full Metal Jacket (New VER.)

I think this is purposely done by hollywood to prevent backups, by entering bad video feeds. If anyone else can look into it a bit, that would be appriciated!!! Thanks

Yea, just use IFOEDIT by derrow, and choose the option to split to 2 discs under the VOB EXTRAS button. Then highlight cell #2 to split at. What will happen is, it will create a new disc starting at cell 2 (or the cell highlighted.) Then rip out the video from the new DVD titleset and reempeg again. This will fix your problem. If not, just post again with what problem you do have and we should be able to correct it :) Post back doctor!

Sure i would try alot of things, first i would stop using XP :) heh. But since thats not the problem.... I use IFOEdit because it works, if you would like to use another way around it, or another program, be my guest. Nothing is set in stone doctor! Just post your results so i know :)

xsirxx, can you please tell me what guide it is on Derrow's site that tells how to demux cells. I'm having this problem with Almost Famous...

Now this is really strange ...

I've been searching the forum to try and figure out my ReMpeg "blockiness" problem, and came along this thread. I'm trying to do The Others at the moment and having a bit of a problem. I ReMpeg'd at 82%, then re-muxed with IFOEdit. The resulting VOBS looked like ass. Very blocky and disgusting.

So, I was about to delete the .m2v file that ReMpeg created, and decided to have a look in DVD2AVI. It looks great! Anyone know what's going on here?

I'm going to continue to search to find the thread that explains this, but in the meantime, just wanted to express my confustion.

PS. I usually use CCE, but I reencoded and it gave me a file that was erroneously 2:04 (the movie is only 1:44, I believe) - so please no posts saying, "you used ReMpeg, that's your problem".
<EDIT>
Er .. I went back and looked again, it's still blocky. It's just the first chapter, which I seem to have overlooked. Dammit
