Hi, is it possible to use something like VCDImager for a minidvd to make the .bin so you can fit the extra 100mb in by eliminating error correction? I tried all kinds of stuff but I guess vcdimager is just not designed for dvd mpeg2 files, only vcd?

Most of the authoring softwares can make an image file or burning the project directly to the CD-R. But if you have only a CD-R, why don't you try SVCD? I just find out that with VCDEasy (VCDimager) I can make a very good navigation structure and it can be played in a standalone.

I have tried SVCD, but I also wanted to try miniDVD. I can't figure out how to fit the extra video data as you can with SVCD though; is it possible?

UPDATE: I did it! I ripped the AC3 and the M2V separately in SmartRipper. I took the MP2 that DVD2SVCD had previously desampled from an AC3 and I used bbMPEG to mux it with the M2V in SVCD mode, bumping up the mux rate to the level indicated in the ~DVD tab. Then I used VCDImagerGUI to make the .bin in SVCD mode. I put the entire ~20-25 minute episode overburned on one 74-minute CD-RW in Mode2-Form2 with the original DVD video (720x480). It would not play in my computer or another computer I tried it on, but it plays fine in my standalone, exactly like the original DVD.
However there is one problem: My DVD player, which I just bought, does not seem to play SVCD subs. That sucks because I thought it did when I bought it. I have an Apex AD-1100w. Can anyone confirm that it does not play SVCD subs? I wonder if I could return it, I got it from walmart.com.
I wonder if it would work with AC3 audio as well. I doubt it since the SVCD standard doesn't allow it, but I will try it if I can find an 80-minute CD. Anyway, this seems great to me as an alternative to miniDVD. I just wish I could get those subtitles to work.

EDIT: I guess this is what XSVCD is? I didn't know that :D

Do any of the expensive DVD authoring utilities allow you to make mode2 form2 images?
Or could it be possible to trick VCDImager to make an image with VOBs?

VCD and SVCD is burned in audio mode, hence there is no CRC (error correction). DVD is burned in UDF which as far as I know uses error correction
