View Full Version : Xvid + AAC in MP4...is it possible?

I have been reading posts about this topic and have d/l all of the apps that encode Wav into AAC and DVD into Xvid. I can successfully create Xvid and AAC files, but I cannot join them together in the MP4 format?
I have tried PsyTel's MPEG-4 Authoring Tool, but it doesn't seem to accept Xvid files. Neither does the Divx5 MP4 creator.
So, is it possible to do such a thing?
Everyone seems to like the vorbis and ogg format, but I personally like the standard of AAC and MP4 with Xvid.
Very Interested,

*SIGH*
Of course you can even use the DivX5 mp4 creator.
You just have to change the FourCC of your XviD avi to the DivX5 fourcc, Nic's version of AviC can do this.

Thanks Koepi, that works as long as one changes both the "previous" and "changed" fourcc.
Right now I have installed Nic's AAC Decoder to the best of my knowledge and the video plays find inside the MP4 format, but the AAC audio doesn't play?
Thanks,

The DXN Player does not support AAC or directshow much for that matter. And the MP4 players that I have tried that do do not support Xvid or Divx MPEG4 that well yet. We need Apples player. I know they will get it right.

You can do this easily with MPEG4IP (http://www.mpeg4ip.net). In fact it's been done already (take a look at the following links):
ReferenceDivX web with software, proceedings and sample ISO MP4/AAC trailers:

"We need Apples player. I know they will get it right."
I have Apple's player (QT6 beta for mac has leaked). If somebody could post a link to an Xvid/DIVX MPEG-4 file with AAC audio (can't make 'm myself, QT6 can only do it by using its own MPEG-4 codecs, btw they are not too good) I'd be happy to test it and post back the results.

Sorry about that stupid post....
QT6 can't handle the samples from the link above. After changing the type-code the files are recognized as MPEG-4 but they won't open due to unspecified 'errors'.
Same thing goes for Apple .mp4 files in the MPEG4IP player: won't open, won't say why.
Standards...right.
Oh well...stuff is not very mature yet.

Here you have more sample MP4 content to try:

Nope, no luck,
Envivio uses profiles in its samples that QT6 does not support (yet). IIRC QT only supports simple and advanced simple. Samples from the other link are said to be 'invalid MPEG-4 files'.
After testing 12 samples from various sources I've yet to find one that works under QT MPEG-4 support (unless they're made by QT itself of course).
Bottom line: at present, I think it is safe to assume that Apple has not gotten it quite right yet.

Hmmm... it's strange, because these Envivio samples works fine with MPEG4IP's wmp4player, too (get latest build from RareWares (http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00)). It really seems that QT6 beta is pretty useless for now.
Interoperability is always a problem when a new standard comes out, but I think this should be fixed as soon as we have a couple of decent MP4 players out.
