I got an (apparently) mpeg file which does not play in wmp6.4 (other mpegs do play, so wmp is doing alright).
Trying to open this in virtualdub get's me the wellknown message
"MPEG import filter: pack synchronization error".

YES, I DO have avisynth correctly installed.
NO, it's NOT mpeg2.

I run that mpeg thru vcdgear307b12.

raw-> mpeg with or without cd i and mpeg correction did not result in usable output. mpeg -> mpeg with mpeg correction resulted in a file which would play in wmp6.4, but only straight on, i.e. no jumping within the file.

VD continued to not accept this vcd-generated file with the very same error message as above.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hint:

If you are from germany ( assuming from your nick ) and it's I*e A*e, than it *IS* MPEG2, at least the (btw: dumb) trailer. The main movie is MPEG1. This VCD is extremely poorly mastered...

Ok, ok... ;)

Try DV Tool ( @Doom9 ) or a program called 'mpegrepair', however i can't remember where to get it... maybe dvd-digest.com

I tried dvtool. This outputs the same as vcdgear(raw->mpg), ie
a file which does neither play in wmp6.4 nor is recognized by vd.

Later on, I tried also mpegrepair. Didn't work either. Also
mpegrepair handles only 750 frames - unless you're willing to spend
3000.00 US $....
