View Full Version : Test file playback error on PS2

I have been having problems getting a backup to work on my PS2 and DVD-RW. It is a Pioneer disc, so I am sure it is high quality media. I was advised by Derrow to get a DVD-5 and do a complete backup to try and see if that would work rather than ripping streams out with IfoEdit. I havent gotten a hold of a DVD-5 dvd yet, so I downloaded the test file from Derrows/mpucoder website.
I have read that several people are getting DVD-RW's to work on their v5 PS2's (which is what I have). So I burned the test file to the Pioneer DVD-RW and it wont play. I used the NTSC version and didnt do a get VTS sectors or change anything in the file ( I am assuming that was what I was supposed to do).
So did I do something wrong recording the test file? ( I dont think I should have used the PAL version but I dont know.) Or is it pretty safe to assume that DVD-RW's WILL NOT play on PS2. Oh, and the test file will play fine with WIN DVD on my computer.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the input! I do have a newer version of the PS2, but the DVD-RW still dont work on it!!! I got the RW discs to play perfectly in 3 standalone players, so I burned them onto a DVD-R and it played perfectly in my PS2 also.

First of all, is your PS2 PAL or NTSC??? A PAL version will not play a NTSC disc and vice versa. When you backed up your DVD-5 did you rip the entire content to your HD and copy the other folder or folders from the DVD to your HD (I've backed up a few DVD-5's that had other folders than the usualy AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS, and wouldn't play in standalones without them)?? After you did that, did you run IFOEdit and run Get VTS???

Well my PAL DVD plays NTSC DVDs.
Although I have soldered something inside it so that it plays NTSC games.
What about DVD region X. That allows you to play NTSC from a PAL PS2

I have a version 3 PS2 PAL and it doesnt play DVD-RW yet my brothers version 5 PAL PS2 plays verbatim DVD-RW without a problem.
Also, both PS2's play NTSC, the only problem being its in black and white unless you use a proper scart lead.

not strange really, the v.5 ps2's are getting better lasers than the earlier models

im not sure sorry, you'd have to ask someone who supplies ps2 lasers.
If you get an answer, plaese post here because I also want a decent laser in my ps2, I need to be able to test dvd's on dvd-rw before i waste discs ;)
