Hi
While some are happy with DivX5 playback of DivX3 AVIs, there has been a lot of effort to get DivX3 backback of DivX3 AVIs. The following _seems_ to have achieved that without Registry editing.
I don't claim to be an expert in anything particularly so if I have interpreted things wrongly, please point it out and explain gently.
I had DivX3.1alpha and 4.12 coexisting quite happily. I uninstalled DivX4.12 using its own uninstaller, then installed DivX Pro 5.0 bundle.
Then I played Inspector Gadget (DivX3.11a), Pearl Harbour (DivX4.11) and Pokemon 4 (DivX5.0) AVIs using Windows Media Player v6.4 and noted
File, Properties, Advanced,...
DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor: Inspector Gadget reported DivX3.11alpha (decoder version 4.1.00.3917)
DivX decoder filter: Pearl Harbour and Pokemon 4 reported DivX 5.0 video decoder filter
Video playback was OK(good) in all cases.
For the record I am using a Duron 800 MHz/256 MB SDRAM/WIN Me/
32 MB Asus AGP-VT7100 32 MB graphics card.
