Hi,
This weekend I created a movie with normal 2-pass mode, and like all movies I've done so far I encoded the credits at constant quantizer of 31. This has worked great with previous versions, but with the one I used now (Nic's 27-03-02 version) I get a final output file that is approximately 26 MB oversized (repeatedly).
The DebugView output is normal until the credits begin, at which time it starts getting more and more negative until at the end of the movie I ended up with a huge (negative) overflow (which indeed means greater filesize right?). This tells me the credits don't get compressed like they should at 31 (or the codec didn't estimate the size of the rest of the movie correctly), and the codec doesn't compensate.
After seeing this I tried to repeat it by encoding the credits seperately with 1-pass constant quantizer mode (also at 31). The file again ended up oversized, total size of 28 MB, with previous versions I always ended up at around 10 MB.
I haven't tried it with the (Koepi's) new version yet, because I only just saw it was out and am at work atm, so I will test it when I get home.
I didn't use Foxer's Alt. CC btw.
OS: Win98SE
If you need any more info (part of the debug output?), just ask.
Btw, you are all doing a great job on this codec. It's been my favorite codec for quite some time already. Keep up the good work! :D
