I thought some people would be interested into this.

Just uploaded my guide with some Alt.Curve tips.

In the next vfw update, there'll be quantizer threshold output so one can more easily choose appropriate distances & aggression.

I'm also thinking of adding output for the video's framesize distribution using the high distance as the ceiling (100% of avg framesize + high distance of avg framesize = ceiling) so one can more easily customize the settings to their liking for the video.

I might add interpolated(can't think of a better word heh) aggression later. where one can choose how much it'll differ from medium aggression to be more like low or high aggression.

If anyone has any suggestions of how to make it easier for the user to choose the best settings for their video, I'm all ears :)

Suggestions:

Medium - Linear
Low/High - Logarithmic/Exponential

Also, Average frame size -> Average motion

Motion isn't calculated atm though I might put it in when b-frames are in.

Medium is linear atm and low/high are cosine/sine.

Explain logarithmic/exponential low/high in detail if you would. I'm quite tired atm heh

If you revert the alt_curve.gif by 90 degrees to the left, the first side of the graph for say low aggresion follows exponential increase where as the other side follows logarithmic increase.

Therefore it favours low motion scenes etc etc

I think it's more approachable.

Btw,

Can ne1 tell me which situation is the Alt.Curve used ?

And about the graph, is there a documentation around here
which could explain it.

Thank you.

I'm not sure I understand your question here.
If you're referring to how it's selectable in 2pass 1st pass atm, don't worry, it's not going to affect the 1st pass information.
