Progressive or interlaced?

When running a preview of Atlantis the lost Empire, Progressive and Interlaced flash back and forth very quickly as if DVD2AVI cannot makeup its mind...what do i do here?

Many distribution / production leaders are encoded differently on DVDs than the main content. Use the [ button to set the start of your project inside the main content, and preview from that point forward to see what happens.

I don't get your suggestion man .. I did what you told, but still keeps going Interlaced/Progressive and so on ..

Is it Interlaced or Progressive? How do i find that out?

DVD2AVI will present the mpeg2 stream descriptions. It may not always match the content. For a pretty good explanation of what's going on with interlaced mpeg2 ... see http://www.thedigitalbits.com/officialfaq.html#3.8.

I recommend a few short tests. Make a .d2v project, using [], selecting a short excerpt of your main content, where there is some motion, and where the mpeg2 stream is reporting interlaced, or switches back and forth. 30-seconds should be enough.

Try without any de-interlacing filters, and see if it looks good to you. Then, do it again, with a de-interlacing filter, and see if it looks better or worse.

If you use AviSynth (avs file type) in your encoding process, you have two built-in de-interlacing choices ... GKnot calls them "fast" and "smart" ... plus there many folks who swear by the Decomb filter set, available from Doom9's download pages. DivX 5 has some sort of built-in de-interlacing, but I've never tried it.

I think you can see if the movie is interlaced with your eyes, move to a fast motion scene, if you see strange bars in the image, the movie is interlaced
