View Full Version : No backwards seeking / rewind in ogm files ?

I've made a few DivX5/Ogg Vorbis movies using the ogm container. Seeking is really fast and accurate but backwards seeking is limited in some way. For example in BSPlayer I can't move backwards further than the last keyframe when using the arrow keys, say "rewind". Jumping backwards using the progress bar (which IMHO doesn't rewind but set a specific jump time) works. This even occurs when using the arrow keys in OggCut.
Somebody got any idea why this occurs ?
If I hadn't this prob, I'd even use ogm with normal MP3 audio.
btw: I'm using DSFilter 0.9.8.7 since the newest one wouldn't play the audio (see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21663).

Hmm ... a player specific problem ? I can test right now, but will do with PowerDivX and report here.

I can confirm this problem, I've tried Zoom Player and WMP, it doesn't seem to be a player issue though. It looks like when the player asks for a backward seek, OggDS is not responding quite well. It worked fine with 0.9.8.6, but newer versions show this problem.
When I use one of those newer versions, sometimes when I seek forward I hear a interference sound (like a ringer) for about a second and then normal audio again

To everybody having this backward seek problem: I found out that it has something to do with how much seconds you try to seek. Zoom Player's default is 10 seconds, I changed it to 15 and it started to work fine.

The OggDS is always seeking to a keyframe. So when pressing the rewind button it seeks for the previous keyframe. The next rewind operation simply seeks back to the same keyframe as it is the previous one. If u use 15 seconds of seeking. i think you jump *over* the last keyframe (2 keyframes back) and you don't get any prob.
Hope it is right what i said :D

Yes, I guess this has something to do with how far keyframes are from the point you are trying to seek... but why did this work fine with OggDS 0.9.8.6?

I'd like to know this too; sometimes this problem can be very annoying.
Is Tobias checking this forum, or should I write him some mail ? However I don't like to push him cause I think he got other things to bother.

i think you could report it with our thoughts in a very friendly way.
so that he doesn't think we want to push him in any way.
