I've seen several good qualty SVCD's that hold upwards of 45 minutes of video.

I can't get beyond the 35 that tmpgenc lists as standard.

I've been using the template for SVCD's in tmpgenc to encode, then burning with nero. I've tried to encode a 45 minute video clip, enabled overburning in nero, but nero still complains I don't have media to hold that large of a file.

I have the bin/cue SVCD of Monsters Inc that plays 45 minutes and burnt that with nero on the same machine.

How can I get similar results with my own encodes?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Well, if your files are very large, even 35 min. might be to much.
It depends on the bitrate you use when you encode your files. I never used the wizard in tmpg, so I don't know how it does it, but when I encode a file with it, I check with a bitrate calculator, about what bitrate to use, and I can fit close to 50 min. on a CD, without a big loss in quality.

matrix,

Thanks for the reply...

With this bitrate calculator, you feed it the avi and it will tell you what bitrate to use for it to fit on an svcd?

Whats the name of the proggy?

What's the bitrate you used to encode the 50 minute SVCD? Was it CBR? VBR?

I generally have been using 2500CBR.

Thanks again.

hi quaterbeers
heres a link wher you can dl a good calculator:
http://www.dawnload.net/video_software/video_tools/fitcd.cfm

also you can try at www.vcdhelp.com in tools section the online-calculator...

alternative you can process your movies with dvd2svcd(easy and build in calculator)

i think its possible to get up to 60 mins on a svcd in good quality(i`ve done so) this means 120 min movie on 2cd`s...

hi quaterbeerz,
me again,
i forgot to say try using vbr cause it gives much better results on lower space (cbr is only good for very highbitrates and so not for svcd)
good luck

Hi. Sorry for being this late.
You can find a bitrate calculator right here at doom9 in the download section. It's called Bearson's Bitrate Calculator. Very simple to use, just enter all the data it asks for, and it'll tell you what bitrate to use.
Better use VBR indeed, and for better results, a 2 pass vbr is preferable.
It will take longer(tmpg is kinda slow), but it gives good results.
Hope it helps.

Thanks very much for the help matrix and orbit-r.

I've been able to squeeze 50 minutes onto a 700mb cdr with room to spare.:D And no noticble loss of quality.
