PAL and NTSC ?

I don't kn if this is the right place for this ?(hope it is).

Let's say that the avi file is in pal format. I am encoding to a SCVD with DVD2SCVD and want to play it on my standalone player which is in the NTSC region(US). Do I have to encode it to NTSC or no, since I remember reading somewhere that all DVD Players automatically convert the data stream to the region u're in? Or am I wrong?

i think that is your tv set to be ntsc..........

Most DVD players can covert PAL->NTSC->PAL, and most TVs are multisync so they can display both formats, so encoding to PAL shouldn't be a problem...

I'd suggest encoding a chapter in PAL, burn it to a cd then try and play it on your DVD player...

i also suggest to encode in pal, since it has 25fps, and if u encode in ntsc, it may turn out to be ~30fps, with redundant fields/frames. so pal may consume less.

also, if u let the dvd handle the conversion, it might actually do a good job :)

you can always encode ntsc vids at 24fps,
this is less than pal 25 fps....
