Re-Empeg, Weird blockiness (read)

I am getting weird blockiness after re-empeging a movie (Training Day.) Every ohh 1/2 second i get weird blockiness then it goes to a normal view, then again. It continues throughout the entire movie, this isnt a low bitrate blockiness seen in most mpegs, this is entirely different. It strobes between these weird blocky half seconds and back. Any ideas on what im doing wrong transcoding? Thanks.

If its an NTSC Film there seems to be a bug in Rempeg2 that does this have you ticked match source this may help

I have used progressive and matched source, both seem to do the same thing, mostly this is a problem with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Seems alot of ppl have a problem with this movie and ReMpeg. Im going to try TMPGEnc and see if it can clear this err0r up... thanks.

Hey im having the same problem with the same movie, I tried to scale it down to around 80% something and i got weird blocky artifacts, play it fast forward and it looks normal but has a jerkyness to it. And doesnt seek from place to place well.
Trying again at 90%...with a smaller part of the movie
Match source and progressive dont matter with this

Gonna have to try Tmpmpg if this doesnt work

Also my audio is messed up in the vobs after I stripped aditional audio tracks out, might just be the computer im working on has crappy soundcard/speakers

interesting findings, So I keep playing with training day and I do all vobs cept the first one. All play fine after transcoding no problems no matter what setting I used. SO I Do the first one and it comes up with the blocks, Odd i think so i proceed to retry diff options, only letting it encode for 1min at a time
I try mix and matching everything nothing works blockyness all over.

Finally I demux the vob into its cell ids and remux the second vob(first vob is 512k and blank...)
Upon doing this I check my work and ITS GOOD!
I try merging the first vob with a random, record and the blocks appear!

Could this be some new trick by hollywood? I dunno I gotta look more into the vob. To tired now getting some sleep. Back tommorrow

massive blockiness (Pixels) even at 90% scale factor!!!

But when I fast forward, it look great...

I have a dope system, so it's not a PC issue...
and I did another film right prior to this, and it came out fine, even at 55% scale factor...

something isn't right...

check the first vob file, try doing a seperate part of the movie

I can confirm this, with Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, i was able to re-encode the vobs after, 1. Im now working on to see if i can encode all CELLS after 1 on this DVD as well. if not, then i will stick with encoding at a lower rate all vobs except one, but hey atleast we have an immediate answer! Thanks guys for the help!

so, I am not sure if I understand, just ReMPEG everything *but* the first VOB??

I use VOB EDIT, you can find it on derrow's website. It lets you rip out cells, then you will notice on the first vts_01_1.vob that it contains 82 cell ids, of course the first 78 are just half a meg to a meg in length, containing the frames that throw off the entire movie. So just rip out the cells of the first vts_01_1.vob and re-encode the ones longer than a meg (cell IDs: 79-82.) Remux them back in and transcode the rest of the main vob files (VTS_01_2.vob-VTS_01_6.vob.) Or whatever ones you are working with. This does work, i just did it. If you need help with using VOBEDIT to rip and remux the vobs, just read up on derrow's website, it explains the whole thing! Take care, hope this works, and thanks to the guys who found it out!

yes the first one is there just to screw you over, roughly 550k

Demux the vob 2_1.vob into cellID's
Now the first vob of the group(1 of 6) Was solely placed there to screw over reencodes.
So you can either remove that cell and rejoin the other files or transcode the other files and rejoin into there original vob.
