I have a 5.7gig m2v file, which I have just downsized by bitrate re-encoding. Unfortunately - the file is still just slightly too big!

I figure on sheding the begining and end part of unwanted stuff, I will be able to get the file to a burnable size.

However, I can find nothing that will cut m2v files. I am also a bit apprehensive as the exact cuts have to be replicated with the ac3 file or I will get lipsync probs.

ANyone able to help out - or point out a URL?

Cheers

A program called "VobSplitter" can do this no problem. You can find it at www.digital-digest.com

I have already got the files from the vobs.

The resultant M2V and Ac3 files are too big - even after using rempeg.

All I want to do is cut a short amount of footage from the m2v file - and obviously the same amount in time fromt the ac3.

VirtualDub etc wont touch m2v files.

Load your M2V file into Vobsplitter, and remove a couple of hundred megs off the end.

couple of suggestions that may be of use:

If you have DVD Maestro, very easy to trim out beginning and end credits by using the "trim" function
Do as follows:
import mpv and ac3
trim the start of the movie to desired spot
trim end of movie to desired spot
create "sync audio track" - this is necessary to sync (and shorten) audio)
compile your movie

when the DVDMaestro figure in the bottom right corner is less then 4.74 it should fit on a DVDR

Another option is to get your DVD authoring program to create a DVD compilation (still too large), if it allows this
then use something like DVTool to split off end of last .vob http://www.musclesoft.de/combatman/
how much to split off depends on eye-balling the situation (eg play your last vob in a player and note how much of the last vob is credits e.g. 4min of total 6 min
then split your file into chunks (in the above case it would be 3 chunks of rpoughly equal size, the first of which is the one you want)
then play this chunk, check it is what you want (repeat procedure if not)
then rename the chunk to the name of your last .vob
then run IFOEdit, and update vts sectors

the resultant new ifo's and set of .vob's will play fine on DVD

Note that this option only allows end shortening

BTW dont use "truncate file" with DVTool or you will lose your last vob - a disaster if the truncated one is too short

OK, so I have downloaded vobsplitter.

Yes it can accept m2v files and ac3 files.

But I want to cut the end of with accuracy - in both files! Had a look at the help files - which to be honest are not much help!

Is it possible to do with VObSplitter?

I do like the sound of the DVD Maestro option - but one snag! Dont have it! I use SpruceUp ATM, though would love to give Maestro a go! SpruceUp has no such options;(

Maestro available anywhere?

Cheers

dont worry about cutting the ac3... just cut the end of the m2v off. The audio will be in sync...
