Not familiar with all the terminology, but is it called an Xvid video with vorbis audio in an Avi container?

Anyway, to have ogg audio in an avi container, I read somewhere that you have to copy some files into the Nandud/Virtual dub directory.

Does anyone know where can I get these files and what are they called? I think it was something along the lines of vorbis SDK???? I can't remember. But knowing where I can download it would be nice.

Besides seeking delays, are there any other problems with using an avi container as opposed to an ogg container?

I like the ogg audio, but I like the convenience of being able to edit at a later date using virtual dub. Would it be possible for Avery Lee to make his virtual dub open *.ogm files in the future?

thx

That is indeed the correct terminology.

There are no seeking delays, because seeking is completely IMPOSSIBLE! You can only watch the video start to finish, so why anyone would want to use this method is beyond me.

Even if you did manage to get the vorbis audio into an avi container, it still won't be editable.

As for a link on where to get the neccessary files, I don't have one. Because in my opinion it would be useless to make movies like this.

Would it at least be possible to make some software like virtual dub that can edit video files in an ogg container?

FYI: I was able to get ogg audio in an avi container, and I was able to seek. The only problem was that the audio was 44khz, and that there were synchronisation problems when i fast forwarded or rewound. AND I was able to open this file in Virtual dub, in fact i used virtual dub to make it.

As amazed as you are, what you "achieved" with your avi+vorbis sound is the best you can get.
AVI _can't_ handle VBR audio.

If you had a developer setup (directx debug version etc) you'd be unable to playback such an AVI, respective an avi containing VBR mp3. That is an evil hack either and doesn't work in any case, in fact, you're unable to watch an avi+vbr mp3 when there is a single frame broken in the avi(either a xvid frame or mp3 frame).

Simply forget about avi+vorbis, forget about avi+vbr audio.

Btw., I mailed Avery Lee some weeks ago about ogg container support in vdub, and he didn't even reply, thus I draw the conclusion he's not going to support it in any way.

This is very interesting. Thanks for telling me. Although I never experienced it personally with my older pieces.

However, does this mean that it is possible to still watch an ogg contained movie if either the video or audio frame is damaged? Does this mean that ogg contained videos would be better for downloading?

Just curious, because I've been downloading anime and every now and then I get currupt video which i have to feed through virtual dub to fix. And sometimes I use Vdub to rederive the keyframes of a partial download so that I don't have to download the ending credits.

However, ogg contained movies are not yet supported by VirtualDub. Which means that I would be forced to download the credits as well.

Maybe -h or someone can modify VirtualDub to support ogg containers since Avery seems to be busy.

Don't rule Avery out. He is planning to support MCF. But the specs are out in the open. The OGG specs are out in the open as well. But there are still a few minor issues I think he would need to consult with Tobias on before he could get it going right. I think it is a ways off. But I have been hearing alot of people using and likeing OGG. Even though I think it is silly to rename or call it OGM. And if it catches on en masse as it seems to be dooing. I would definatly not considder it out of the question.
