problems with 'jay and silent bob strikes back'

I'm having some problems encoding this movie. First attempt was dvd2avi, forced frame, re-encode with robs 2-pass, pulldown, and re-author. Movie starts out fine, but at parts, mainly the end, the video gets choppy, like the frames are flipped or something. Then I tried dvd2avi leaving the video at the 29.97, re-encode, and re-author. same thing. anybody know what's going on and how to get around it? Thanks in advance...

yup ive had this problem too - mine looks as if the bit rate is changing....have you sorted yours yet....

it's a hybrid movie, meaning that it will have pure interlaced ntsc parts as well as film parts. you will have to wrap it with avsynth and deinterlace / ivtc with decomb.dll or greedyhma.dll or ivtc.dll.

i personally like decomb.dll.

you can try to make a short 2-3 minute project with dvd2avi (use [ and ] keys), preferably with the part of the movie that plays jerky. make sure to do it in 29.97 fps too.

make an .avs with your regular setting (don't forget to load decomb.dll though)

and try the following parameters for decomb.dll

Telecide(guide=1, post=true, blend=false)
Decimate(mode=0, quality=3)

after encoding that fragment with CCE do a pulldown on it and see if the parts still play jerky.

if they do, you may have to resort to keeping the movie at 30 fps and doing the recommended hybrid material deinterlace like so:

Telecide(post=true, blend=false)
Decimate(mode=1, threshold=50)
