sound ok in Media Player but not in The Playa

How come different players read the same file differently? I encoded a few movies which work perfectly in Windows Media Player, but have audio synch and repetitive problems in The Playa and other players such as vidomi. Anybody know anything about this and how to create a file that will play on all players?

"The Playa" does not support ABR or VBR mp3 sound.
