I've noticed that on store-bought DVD's, the VOB files are always broken into 1GB chunks, even though a movie may span 3-4 GB. Why not just have one big VOB file? Does it have anything to do with the 4GB file limitation in Windows ME and earlier?

The purpose of this is to allow compatibility throughout all the different platforms that DVD can play on. Some older OS'es can't read files larger than 1 gig, so they are split up into chunks. Doesn't affect playabililty one bit though. And there is nothing to be concerned of.
