View Full Version : Ogm splitting problems

First problem: Splitting ogm files with OggCut (according to Doom9) somehow doesn't work properly for me. For what I've seen you can only cut at keyframes with OggCut, also if you move with the arrow keys (I compared the cutting points using Nandub with the avi, what always works well), thus setting cutting points on keyframes shouldn't be the root of my prob.

My two parts now look like this: the first plays fine up to the cutting point keyframe (let's call it nr1), but it won't stop there, but rather play ahead until the last deltaframe before the next keyframe (nr2). This wasn't a big problem but now the second part is screwed up at the beginning. The movie will start right after keyframe nr2 (which isn't right, since I didn't set this cutting point) and it will play all black past keyframe nr2 until the next keyrame (nr3). Seems like it was missing keyframe nr2 and therefore all the deltaframes after it are playing black.
Conclusion: OggCut doesn't work for me.

Second (minor) problem/question: Is it right you can only move back using the arrow keys (in bsplayer and oggcut too) until the last keyframe ? With avi I can move freely back and forth, but with ogm I'm restricted. Moving back using the progress bar however still works fine.

thanks a lot for every hint

You're sure you did cut BEFORE the kyframe?

you know that a file can only start playing directly WITH a keyframe?
if you cut on the keyframe, it'll end up in the first file.

Try this first, then complain.

I don't want to annoy anyone with my post, but I'm stuck. I'm not new in the ripping or cutting "business" but what else can I do than move the slider in OggCut (which should only snap on keyframes) and press "mark in/out" ?

@Koepi
I know that a clip has to start with a keyframe, but how can I tell OggCut to cut BEFORE the keyframe, if I can only move the slider on keyframes ? I've played around and tried a lot with it, but without success. It's strange too, that the "first" part will play further than the cutting point.

If I play the "second" clip in BSPlayer it will just stay black until the next keyframe. In WMP 6.4 it will show this "next" keyframe until it really "arrives" there.

btw: I'm using Ogg directshow filter 0.9.8.7 since the newest version wouldn't play the audio.

How does everyone else deal with OggCut ?

Pardon me if I'm getting on your nerves.

Hmm,..
I do it like this:
lets say there are two keyframes 'a' and 'b'. 'a' comes directly in front of 'b' and 'b' is the cut-position-keyframe for my first part. So after the first part is done I (the slider) move to 'a' and set the cut-position-frame for the second part.
U might want to try it, may be it helps at least for me it kind of works ;)

@Selur
Thanks for your answer. With your "method" it's obvious I won't miss any video content; I kinda tried so too. But this way I will still have a few seconds of black video at the beginning of the second part. This ain't a clean solution IMHO. Furthermore I'd have to correct the second part's subtitles (not hardcoded) delay.

For everyone else OggCut works all well ? You know, like in Nandub/VDub where you just set one cutting point and then just save the "left and the right side", and where the first clip will end up at the cutting point and the second part will exactly start there ?

I'd also like to have no probs :(

Anyway, thanks to all those people out there putting time into the development of open source encoding and editing stuff. It's great what you've done so far. :)
