CCE =Crap

Well after reading all the raving on, about CCE
I have come to the conclusion that it is a very unstable piece of software.

I have been using TMPG encoder for a couple of years doing SVCD.

but having recently got a DVD Burner, I now use rempeg for any downsizing, and it works great

but after reading many people raving about CCE, thought I would try it, well after many hours wasted with Lockups, not accepting M2V files, and various other problems,

my conclusion is that it,s hopeless, e.g just reformatted my PC

install CCE 2.50 inserted a DV Camcorder avi

what happens, errors and lock up, yet TMPG runs for ever without a hitch

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with it. CCE, as I'm sure most people on this forum will agree, is not crap.

I produces far better quality pictures than tmpgenc in around a quarter of the time!

I would suggest you struggle on with cce, I can assure you the results are worth it.

Maybe you should try a later version, 2.64 perhaps. At the very least give us some idea of the problems you are having!

Now I started using CCE 2.50 and it just Locked every time I get to the encode bit, and Windows xp tells me
recovered from a serious error.

So I thought version 2.62 might perform a little better,
no chance, no codec installed which is rather bizzarre considering TPMG can read and encode the same files also windvd will play the files, so I thought I would try encoding some of my Dv Camcorder footage, set all the peramerters in CCE Get to the bit where encode.

what happens the bloody thing crashes
(recovered from a serious error) what really P**S*S me off, is that every single file that CCE rejects.
TMPG will encode with no bother at all. and it sort of niggles me that Lots of forum members comment about how good CCE is, well it just does not seem to want to know on my PC.

I even did a clean install of XP, and the only program on CCE,
the damned program still crashes.

Lets move to PC number 2 (my Daughters)

Abit KA7 Lite
1400mhz
2 ide drives 40gb and a 30gb
256mb ram
soundblaster live
nothing much else that matters
windows xp

about half a dozen games,
install CCE 2.62 Try to encode using CCE set the peramiters, go to encode
crashes recovered from a serious error.

well all I can say is that after making probably 2-300 svcd,s over a number of years, and 6 years of Non Linear Video Editing. CCE is the most troublesome software that I have encountered.

Ok, use CCe 2.50 with CRC patch!!
Than uncheck audio in CCE and don't use audio in avisynth ( although use ResampleAudio(44100)!! that's important! ) Then everything should go alright... boy, am i drunk... sorry...

about cce.. how about pasting the ecl or just tell us which parameters you used? most crashes are audio related

Same symptoms here. The bloody Hangover Fairy struck again after last night, hitting me on the head with a huge hammer this morning..

To the point: CCE seems to be very picky. Usually it works just fine but some people just can't get it working. It works OK on my computer but if I encode captured AVIs, I'm just asking for trouble;)

CCE right out of the box doesn't take certain files like the forgiving TMPGEnc. DV AVIs have to be frameserved in some way to work. Just read up on guides, besides audio lock ups, your source material can be the problem.

How right you are. I have given up on it, TMPG will do for my needs, all the hassles with CCE has ground me down.

PCS,s are problems on there own, and this bit of software is just too shaky and problematic.

after many hours of toil, and not a single mpeg file of any kind to show for my endevours, I know when i,m beat.

ok butkicker, heres your problem:

- 2.64 or newer is needed to run in windows XP

- 2.64 supports DV.avi (i havent tested tho), but 2.62 doesnt seem to, altho if you grab the canopus software dv codec (only decompresses, doesnt compress, so just change the DV.avi's fourcc code to CDVC)

now this is what ive worked out also:

CCE wont support greater than 2gb avi files, unless its a DirectShow file (and export from Premiere 6 works), BUT, it doesnt support DirectShow codecs, but luckily you can use VFW codecs in DirecShow Avis. this also explains the DV.avi support in 2.62 as well.

I run 2.50 in Windows XP without a problem at all. If any piece of software is unstable, I would have to say TMPG! I've tried using a number of different versions and the damn thing locks up all the time. Even when it does work, it takes upwards of half a day just to do something!

CCE gives me faster than realtime encoding on my P4 1.6Ghz system. The quality is AWESOME! I can't say enough good things about it! Especially after using TMPG and ReMPEG. (ReMPEG works but the quality is crap in comparison to CCE)
