Capturing with WinTV Go

Hi,

I've got a small prob when capturing with VirtualDub from my WinTV Go.
When I start VirtualDub capturing mode, I hear sound, but within the volume meter there is shown no sound. And when I start capturing I get an error message 419 (it's in german, so probably it won't help you).
Any ideas?

Hi,

please provide the error message (I'm from Germany, too). Well, I use a WinTV PCI FM for capturing in VirtualDub and I'd like to know which driver and OS you are using. I saw problems when trying to use the Hauppauge WDM driver. VirtualDub help says that it need a VfW driver. Hauppauge provides both on their homepage. I also had problems with capturing the audio with the WDM driver.

Another thing is, check the line-in configuration in the recording settings of your sound card. My Audigy provides two sliders for line-in and "what you here right now" ("was Sie gerade hören"). Maybe there is something to setup correct.

The error message is:
"Error 419: Fehler: Das Waveeingabegerät kann nicht geöffnet werden. Überprüfen Sie die Samplegröße, Frequenz und Kanäle."
My OS is Win2k and I'm not using the WDM driver.
My sound card is a SB Live Player and I already tried various settings like "what you hear" and "line in"...

<edit>It works with PCM sound, but MP3 still doesn't work...</edit>

tried the audiosel.exe that's located in your wintv dir ? sometimes this will help initialising your sound device

It works with PCM, but not with MP3? Well, which MP3 codec do you have installed? I'm running on Win2K as well and my Soundblaster Audigy Player shouldn't be that much different from the SB Live. Anyway, the error message sounds like the input of your sound card is not set to something VirtualDub can handle. I only have 44.1 kHz as maximum sample frequency in my VirtualDub settings. Dou you try to capture 48 kHz?

Well, I don't know about the MP3 codec in your system. I'd try to capture audio as PCM anyway and convert later to MP3 in VirtualDub. For myself I am saving the audio as WAV and use BeSweet with LAME MP3 or Ogg Vorbis for the sound and mux it in later on.

As MP3 codec I use lame and I just reinstalled it, but it didn't make a difference...
I've already tried to capture in PCM and then convert to MP3 with VirtualDub, but then there comes a similar error message. It seems, that there is something wrong with my mp3 codec. But I just reinstalled, no idea what's wrong...

i seem to remember there being some problems using virtualdub to encode mp3 audio. something in the virtualdub sourcecode itself, not necessarily something you can fix with drivers.

anyway, when i read your inital post, it was exactly a problem i had where in win2k (or any other win environment) you need to turn on the lines you are using for recording EXPLICITLY by double clicking on the little sound icon in your taskbar, selecting options, then properties and click the right boxes for 'recording' (not playback). the fact that PCM works for you seems to indicate that you've gotten this to work. so, i think you are left with what i do, which is capture with pcm audio and then strip to wav, then use lame to encode it vbr at whichever quality, then stitch the mp3 back in with nandub. i think you have to use nandub to add mp3 to the avi, i am more positive that you need to use nandub to stitch in vbr mp3. the quality of the end result is accurate and sounds very good.

by the way, i have an sblive also.

i think i would look for posts on using virtualdub with mp3 in the virtualdub forum itself, and then post there if you can't find a helpful archive post.

Yesterday I reinstalled DivX 3.11. There the Fraunhofer MP3 Codec is included, which is used by VirtualDub. Now it works fine! :)
But thx to everyone for helping me!

The above mentioned problem with LAME MP3 ACM codec and VirtualDub were fixed in VirtualDub 1.4.9. That's what I got from the changelog...
