I use Divx 5 ad version. Now encoding the same movie, with same setting this artifact appear.
When I installed there wasn't this artifact...Some time ago i used ad-ware to remove gain, so I thought it was this
I've tried uninstalling and reistalling with no success!
Does anyone can help me?

Do you really watch your movies while zooming at 2x?
Frankly, I don't see your "chess board" (real name is macroblocks) and I find that if you have to zoom to see some artifacts, them that means that you won't see them while watching the movie.
Maybe it's the level of postprocessing that has been changed.

Thanks 4 reply.

Sometimes... if you have a 640 x 352 movie and whould like to see on a 1280 * 1024 monitor... you have to watch the movie resized.
I have resoultion of 1024 * 768 but when I watch a movie with full screen I can notice the problem, and for me it's very annoying...

Maybe I didn't explain well...
I were not talkin about macroblock, but inside some macroblock you can see a pixel dark followed by a pixel light, a pixel dark , a pixel light and so on... (like a chess board)
I've uploaded another screenshot, where the problem is more visible (i've circled some of this blocks, but there are very much of them)

No I'm sure. I've setted the postfilter to 0, and then opened 2 files with 2 windows of virtualdub opened, and in the first the artifact never appears, in the second...
I have build 413 of Divx 5.0. Does the build there is on DivxNetwork is the same or it's newer (sometimes when there is a minor bugfix they increase only build number and not version number).

Just solved my problem...
I unistalled Divx, then removed manually from registry all entries related to Divx and to Gator and then reistalled. The artifact were gone!!!!

I'm sorry, I didn't think the fact that viewing the film with a higher resolution was like zooming. Now I just looked and zoomed and saw the chess pattern on some blocks. It was very strange indeed.

Was that chessboard artifacts encoded in the movie or it was just a decoder thing?

It wasn't only a decoder issue... I don't know why mpeg quantization were used (I never changed it), and it seems this was the problem. When I deleted registry entry, I reset quantization to H263.
