I have made a video/audio clip in windows movie maker is there any way I can convert this to an mpeg file and add it to DVD2SVCD title picture so that it runs before my movies.

use VCDEasy 1.09 I think he just added support for this..or try TSCV. In DVD2SVCD just choose "Don't make images". You'll lose your chapters, etc. but get what you want.

Just to clarify.
I have made a movie with the extension .WMV and I now have virtual Dub V1.3c.
I need to know how to change the file extension .WMV to .ASF so that I can convert it using Virtual Dub to an AVI.
Can someone tell me how to rename the file extension if possible.

c:\>ren file.wmv file.asf<Enter>

Is that what you asked for? The old version of VDub should be able to open asf.

WMV and ASF file extensions are both registered to Windows Media Format video. Even better: WMA can be renamed to ASF too. Since MS introduced their latest codec (Windows Media Video 8) they use the brand name "Windows Media Video" aka WMV but the file format itself (Advanced Streaming Format aka ASF) remained the same. WMA just refers to the version 8 codec.

That's it,

Changed the file to asf then converted it to mpeg but DVD2SVCD will not work when I try to rip my trial chapter with this file selected for title screen.
Is there no way round this?
Maybe I am just a bit slow :) lol

@madmuppet:

I wanted to save some time but now I can see we need to tell the whole story ;)

1) A VCD 2.0 and SVCD may have intro and extro MPEGs, multiple menu MPEGs and multiple movies (actual data) on a CD. We usually put not intro, not extro and only one data to our SVCDs. The logic that controls what to play after what and where to jump when a key is pressed on your remote is configured by an XML file.

2) DVD2SVCD has a title picture feature. The picture is usually downloaded from the Internet Movie Database imdb but you can draw anything you like. Resolution, etc. info is in the FAQ or Q&A. I have never checked the generated XML file but I am not sure if this will become a real SVCD intro. Intros cannot be interrupted, they're a must play on insertion (like FBI warnings). Rather than that, I suspect it will be just concatenated to the whole movie file as data. Anyhow, since it's a static picture converted to an mpeg file, this is not what you need.

3) DVD2SVCD UI does not let you add your custom videos as intro or extro to your project. Full stop.

4) If you have already created a custom intro WMV file then you have to convert it to an SVCR compliant MPEG-2 stream using the old (ASF capable) version of Virtualdub and frameserve it to a good encoder. Once you have this file, you need a tool that can help you in creating an XML file that defines this MPEG-2 you just converted as an intro. TSVC.EXE or VCDEasy can do that for you.

5) Optionally you could modify the XML file manually and make a Crash Recovery from Authoring phase. This way you can tell DVD2SVCD to use your intro file. Since the above mentioned 2 tools do this task with a GUI, I do not recommend this for you. (Sorry to say that, DVD2SVCD :))

Hope this helps,
Z
