CCE not loading avi's/.vdr's

I've read through the FAQ, this forum, and the guides(here and at vcdhelp.com), but I can't seem to get CCE to work.
I've tried frameserving with Virtualdub, but CCE won't load the .vdr files. If I try to load an avi file, the open file box closes, but no file appears in the main window. I was having the problem where the prog would just shut down when loading a .vdr, but that went away---now just like trying to load avi(no file in window).
any thoughts?

well.. you may have read faqs but you forgot the basic rule when posting a question: give us some info to work with. what cce version? can you load vdr or avisynth scripts in another program (virtualdub, windows media player). how does your avisynth script look like?
