View Full Version : TMPGEnc crash's converting AVI w/BiCubic
Holomatrix
26th March 2002, 13:39
Hello, just wondering if anyone has had this problem with TMPGEnc, I'm converting an AVI and after the encoding tests have been done the final avs script crashes TMPGEnc using Bicubic resize, if I use simple resize it seems fine. The only difference is in simple it uses the covertYUY2 command. Should I post this in the avisynch forum instead??
Thanks

here is the bicubic crash AND GUESS WHAT IF U DO NOT CLOSE dvd2svcd it just continues like nothing went wrong even though tmpgenc crashed! and i alos have to delete the whole tmpgenc directory and re-extract it then try again.

If you add covertYUY2 to the avisynth(avs) file does it work then?

with the bicubic during the tests the movies does not move its almsot like the framserver is stuck on the first frame.
with the simple resize it is showing different frames and small parts of the movie...
it looks like it is going to work this time. ill give it a few hours and ill find out.. bbl with reports on the damage

well ill try that next is it a setting in the advanced options?
and i do not know how to edit that file so kick me and point me to a thread on that too :-) or if its in the faqs or newbie files ill check them over...

Under the Frameserver Tab there is an option to edit the AVS file.
Try adding covertYUY2() after the .d2v file and before the resize and see if this works.
I have never used TMPG as an encoder so I am not completely sure it works the same way. I am trying a quick test I will edit this and get back to you.
Just tested it and using Bicubic worked perfect for me without any modification. If I added that line to the AVS file TMPG wouldn't even start. I am using TMPG 2.53 are you using the current version?
I don't know what else to tell you since it worked perfect for me.

Hi there,
just to be sure you do it right, the proper command is "ConvertToYUY2()" (See http://www.videotools.net and the "AviSynth Doc" link on the top for more on that) - there is also a little writing about some ATI YUY2 codecs mess up the YUY2 to RGB conversion. So if this is the case perhaps a "ConvertToYUY2()" can really help.
SimpleResize can only work in YUY2 mode so D2S is using this command in AviSynth script before using it and so it might help with the BicubicResize too when using it.
Hope that helps,
Gerti

That is what I get for using cut and paste. I did it again. I was in a hurry and didn't look closely at the syntax.
I used convertyuy instead of convertoyuy2.
It did work for me this time just fine.
If you want to test it add:
ConvertToYUY2() after the mpg file and before the resize.
Although like I said Bicubic worked fine for me without adding this line.

i was using 2.53 tmpgenc with dvd2avi using a high quality divx
well simple resize worked but now i have another problem... ill start a new thread because its different.

Hi guys, I'm using TMPGEnc 2.53 also and yes this worked;
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\DVD2SVCD\MPEG2Dec\mpeg2dec.dll")
AVISource("D:\MOVIE.AVI")
ConvertToYUY2()
Crop(0,37,352,214)
BicubicResize(480,480,0.00,0.60)
with the convert added. Does this degrade the video quality at all?
Thanks for the help

Hi Holomatrix,
good to hear that. Usually when doing a DVD conversion then the frameserving works in YUY2 mode completely. But with the AVI the frameserving is working in RGB mode - this should usually be no problem either but seems something got messed up then. So with "ConvertToYUY2()" you force frameserving to work in YUY2 mode and the RGB colors will be converted to YUY2 colorspace.
From one conversion process there should usually be no visible quality drop but in the AviSynth docs you can find an example where they use a chained "ConvertToRGB(ConvertToYUY2(ConvertToRGB(.." and so on and with that you wil see some effects on the colors that is visible to the human eye.
So no real problem with the one colorspace conversion here.
Greetings,
Gerti
