PC Scale vs. TV Scale

Well, I figured out my last post on how to encode the DVDrip with the black bars on the top or bottom, but when using DVD2AVI, what is the difference between PC Scale and TV Scale?

I tried but the search feature won't let me use the word TV or PC because they aren't 3 characters, so I was stuck with the word scale.

One way that I found for getting around the 3 character minimum for a search that absolutely has to have the two (2) charater word in order to make any sense is to use an asterick after the two (2) character word.. ie type pc* scale rather than pc scale.

I don't fault anyone for reposting this particular question. I think you could hit the search button until the cows come home and you still wouldn't find a good answer on this forum for how TV/PC scale really works. ;)

USA NTSC TV's expect a luma range of (I think) about 16-240 or something like that while PAL TV's expect full luma range. I think that all DVD2AVI and MPEG2DEC will do is use a different YUV->RGB conversion if TV scale is on and you convert to RGB color. And if TV scale is on maybe it compresses the color space (losing info) a bit which might cause a smaller compressed file.

But if you are (suggested) keeping the format in YUY2 then I don't think the switch does anything at all. I started reading the code once to really find out the answer to all this but got sidetracked along the way. Sorry.
