View Full Version : iviaudio playbacks MP3, sounds weird!

In WMP 6.4 and Zoonplayer the MP3 Tracks are played by the iviaudio filter, which results in strange artifact during playback. When I have an Avi file it sounds ok though. Why does it take the iviaudio filter. If I r"egsvr32 /u" it, it sounds fine! Because it takes the right MP3 Decoder Filter.

Iviaudio.ax seems to have some sort of higher priority than the l3codecx.ax.

How can I change that? WMP 7 and up and Winamp take the right filter btw.

It would be most helpful if we knew which OS your running.

WinAmp does not use DS filters, only plug-ins for the audio playback.

Oh, I have the same problem under Win98 and XP, so I thought it is not so OS-dependent. A friend of mine has the same problem with 98.

If you play a simple MP3 (Not AVI with MP3) in WMP 6.4, and you have iviaudio.ax installed, do you have it played by it, or the actual proper MP3 Decoder FIlter?

For me it uses the iviaudio, but when I use an avi it is fine.
If I unregister the iviaudio it is ok as well.

Is there some sort of priority, which filter is used, or maybe a registry entry somewhere?

Any advice?

I had the same problem long time ago and so I made a patch.
It is included in my Filter-Pack, but when you send me an email I will send the patched Filter back to you.

mpeg2hq@yahoo.com

The patch is only needed for the version 2.x of the Filter.
In the Version 3.x the patch is included in the original Filter.

Well the iviaudio should not be used while playing MP3's.

I'd suggest unregistering all unknow filters and then start fresh with registering them slowly to see which is the culprit. Do you have the Radium codec installed?

Tsui...I love your filter pack but I'm always having a hard time find your page. Is 3.9.3 the latest pack?

Where can I find a list with all the registered Filters?

I don't think I have the Radium installed. If I unregister the iviaudio I get the iis MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder to play the MP3s.
If I unregister the l3codecx.ax I only have the Default DirectSound Device to play the MP3. (It works)
With a registered iviaudio I get in graphedit:
song.mp3 -> MPEG-1 Stream Splitter -> InterVideo Decoder -> Default DirectSound Device

The Avi-Splitter knows better where to send the signal, weird.

Tsui, if your modified iviaudio works better, maybe Doom9 should change his Audiofilters Pack. (Hope you check your Mailbox soon)

Is iviaudio 3.x worse than 2.x? Or why is nobody using it in his filter packs?

Beave,

Doom9's filters work just fine, in fact I'm sure you will see other people distributing this same pack under a different name.

Launch GraphEdit and the hit Ctrl-F to see a list of installed codecs and filters. Double click the filters to see the path where the file lives.

Version 3.1.58 of the Intervideo filter is currently being tested. The general opinion so far is that 3.1 sounds much better than the 2.3 or 2.6 series. This will depend upon your equipment of course.
