View Full Version : Will installing DivX5 codec stuff up Divx3 & 4 playback?

Hi

After reading Sticky's "the solution", and seeing posts elsewhere where others say that installing DivX5 made it impossible to view DivX3 and 4 rips, I'm very reluctant to proceed with DivX 5 installation.

Pity, cos ppl are already rushing into publishing DivX5 rips of some stuff I'd like to see.

Comments please

thanks

Divx5 doesn't make playback of Divx3 and 4 impossible. Only some people think divx3 looks bad with the divx5 playback filter. If you think so as well, there's a way to get the divx3 playback back, it was posted somewhere in this forum.

I personally don't think divx3 looks bad with divx5 playback. I actually like divx5 post-processing filters for all divx files. I seem to be the only one, tho...

When DivX5 installs, doesn't it give the option to playback all DivX3/4 content or not?

Apart from playback, does DivX5 interfere with the other two codecs in any way eg. during ripping?

thanx

@theReal

I like it too! :) No problems with using DivX 5 filter to playback 3.11/4 content.

@JimmyBarnes
Currently, when you install DivX 5 there is no option to not use DivX 5 filter to playback all content. But read the sticky, there is a way to fix it if you want to.

As I said, I have no problems using DivX 5 filter...

DivX5 installation will replace your DivX4 codec entirely. That means you can no longer encode movies with DivX4 even if you wanted to. There a way to have both codecs installed regardless of this, there's a link to the post that describes how in the DivX5 Q&A sticky.

Does it also replace DivX3.11alpha?

If so, would the above workaround allow DivX5 and DivX3.11a to coexist?

thanks

No, it doesn't replace divx 3.11
