Divx5 Block Encoding Problem

As I was encoding this clip...I noticed a VERY bad frame. I tried encoding this frame (2-pass) with B-frames Only (Max Quant 10 and 12), and B-frames + QP (Max Quant 12). They all resulted in the same "blockyness". How can I improve the codec settings to avoid frames like these (files attached)?

Hi,

This seems like a very hard frame to encode.

From my experience, the quality of a screenshot is not indicative to a great degree to how the video looks when played.

How does the video look when played?

As for recommendations:

Try encoding this and surrounding frames using 1-pass, 100% quality setting, and turn off b-frames. Compare with the results you have now. Any difference?

Also, is this a b-frame by any chance? When viewed by themselves, b-frames are of much less quality than a regular frame. This is because, in effect, the quantizer is doubled for a b-frame.

Check the frames before and after it...do they look any better? If so, b-frames might be your trouble here...

I´m of the opinion that we are dealing here with a major DivX5 problem: the codec simply distributes too less bits to high motion scenes.
Let´s hope someone can help here...
