cce 262/264 grainy results

I use cce 2.62/2.64 to transcode m2vs to smaller size. I basically follow robshot's tutorial. I load the m2v with dvd2avi, load the *.d2v file with vfapi, load the resulting avi with cce. I notice that the colors are kinda grainy,let's say its a scene with single colors, like blue sky, brown walls, etc., the colors are not flat, but very grainy, and its disturbing. However, if i use rempeg or even tmpeg, the grains are not as prominent. Is it a setting problem? Or just inherent in all cce encodings. Thanks.

Not all cce encodes are "grainy" what you could do is post the name of the movie. I dont know robbshots settings, but if you could also post the settings used with cce..

All of my cce encodings are grainy, but again, it's apparent only in areas where colors are "mid-toned", not so bright or dark. Since in the latter cases, the graining effect is not apparent. I use the following settings. I get frameserved avi from dvd2avi project. Frameserving is done thru vfapi. I use 2.62/2.64 cce for encodings. For first pass, I use Q=40, min=0, max=9800, but basically to get just the vaf file. For 2nd multi-pass settings, I do just one pass. Usually average bitrate is set to around 2150 to 2200, min=0, max=9800. Under Video tab: Add sequence, upper field first (acc to bitrate viewer), linear quant, zigzag, luminance=16to235, intra=auto, etc. When I turn linear quant on or off, I still get the grains. So I guess its not because of that setting. GOP n/m is set to 4, then image quality priority=5, but anti-noise filter is off. Under Matrices, i use mpeg standard. I'm guessing it has something to do with that matrices setting right? If I set it to standard, how will it be different from mpeg settings? Hope this helps. Well myself i use a min=755, you might want 2 set the luminance to like 0=255 also try using the anti-noise of 2 and i would not use the matrices just try it with the default see if that helps.

Edit: Only set luminance to 0=255 if you are having color problems. If not leave it 2 the default of 16=235

Again, I appreciate the response. However, have you noticed that using a 0-255 luminance setting kinda causes the colors to look oversaturated? The reds appear too red, greens to greeny, etc. Before I'm using a 0-255 setting on the notion that it shoould cover all the available colors from the source, but once encoded, the video looks way off from the originals, colors wise that is. I'm wondering what does those matrix settings do? Anti-noise level of 2, it won't affect the quality of the final output? It won't look a tad fuzzy? Thanks again.
