Whenever i try to encode the ac3 file i come up with this error at the end with no mp3 file to show for it.. Im using dIVX5Pro and have copied the latest lame files into Gordian Knots folder. (lame-3.91.zip) Ive tried many times to no avail and its really starting to piss me off big time so if anyone has had the same problem and has worked out the cure id be very grateful for some assistance.. ive prob just missed something small..

Ive been looking through the usage file in lame and found none of the suggested strings there..

-z1 -b1 -c normal -L -3db
--alt -preset 128

Im assuming this version of lame doesnt support these strings and there lies my problem.. but then the question is, what strings should i be using instead??

I have exactly the same problem. I got around it by using besweet to do the audio and then followed the rest of doom9's guide. However when using besweet for the first time I couldn't get it to run until I downloaded azid.dll especially and put it in the correct directory within besweet. In the end I didn't get to an answer for your and my problems you described. Maybe it has something to do with a missing azid.dll.

Try my suggestions and let me know what you think or if azid.dll fixes your problems (I can't try it just yet as I'm in the middle of experiments with Lumi on or off for 2 CD rips).

Cheers Gazza

I also had this problem. I removed GKnot. Then I installed and made sure I DESELECTED lame from the install. I don't know quite what was happening for me be it seemed that just copying the most recent lame to the GKnot folder didn't kill the old lame. Never installing the old one cured it.

On another subject: I also use --resample 44.1. I know this lowers the quality and increases the time but I share my files around. Is this actually neccesary now? How many PCs can't handle 48 nowadays?

Doom9's guide(s) for GKnot recommend --alt-preset. This is a LAME 3.9 parameter. GKnot includes only LAME 3.8.

You'll notice, at the top of Doom9's guides, links for software download. LAME 3.91 can be found in that section.

Many people inadvertantly skip over installing LAME 3.91.

I was right with my problem.. i just removed the space from

--alt -preset 128

leaving me with

--alt-preset 128

And all is working fine again.. i knew it had to be something simple:rolleyes: .. but thanks for the resolve guys.. :D

With reference to 70-219's valuable advice. I re-installed gknot as suggested (by not installing the old version of lame when installing gknot) and it works great. I always get rattled when something doesn't work as it should or as I expect.

Thanks once again

Can't believe it!!! I actually helped? LOL. That's probably a first for me. I'd love to know what was going wrong for us Gazza. Maybe we missed a step (I very, very much doubt that though). Adjustment for the Doom9 guide perhaps...

Maybe the guide works for some people but not everyone. The guide could use some guidelines, e.g. if you see this problem then try this......

But in general I find Doom's guides an excellent baseline to get started.

One thing I would like to see is maybe some more reading material covering digital video stuff. I'm still new to digital video but am learning quickly. However, there are some things that go way over my head, for example, using Xvid for playback you can vary brightness, etc. But what do the rest of the options actually do? I have read some explanations in Doom's guide but still crave for a better understanding. Another example would be what does b-frames actually do? Any ref to a helpful website that has all this stuff would be highly appreciated.

With a better understanding of some of the basic digital video techniques I would then be able to contribute much better.

Here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19436) is a big 'ol thread on B-frames that should help you a bit.

On digital video I can't help but I bet if you rummage through these forums long enough you'll find stuff of use. If you ever get enough information you may even be able to write a help file and post it up to Doom 9 :p
