View Full Version : Audio Synch Problems in Gordian Knot.... please help!

My first attempt to use Gordian Knot has been on 'Being John Malkovich.'
:o

Visual quality on the final product is great, the problem is that the audio is completely out of synch.

I did everything step by step as indicated on Doom9's GK guide. It's a great guide, but I think in certain places pertaining to audio it is not as clear as it could be, especially for a complete Newb.

After completing SmartRipper, besides the .vob files, I get the one 'Audio English AC3(2Ch)' file that I selected in in the stream processing tab.

The thing is that after I've completed the encoding, and I have the final product, the sound file is still a .ac3 file, rather than a .mp3 file. I think that this may be part of the problem.

Also, for some reason the Compressibility Check doesn't work after I select now. The program seems to go through some process, but after its done, there is no value under load, in the Bits/(Pixel*Frame) window. :(

I would appreciate some help with this problem.

Hi,

I think your problem is you selected "stream processing" in Smartripper that ripped the ac3 file to your hard drive.

If you are following the guide exactly, it mentions this possiblity.

However, an easier method is to use dvd2avi to extract the ac3 track, then use gordianknot to encode it to mp3.

If you do not have the ac3 filters installed, you will not hear any sound when you playback the movie.

Try ignoring the "stream processing" option in Smartripper and use dvd2avi to extract the ac3 sound. Then use the "audio" tab in Gknot to encode the ac3 to mp3 sound.

Hi Dragonman, thanks for the advice (both about the GKnot and the wife!).

I'll follow your advice about not using 'streaming processing' and instead copying all the audio files and subtitle files to my harddrive.

Where do you get the AC3 filter, I don't think I have one because when I play the movie in GK's preview window, I get no sound.

I think I am doing everything right when I comes to configuring the Audio tab.
For Interleaving & AVI-Overhead I choose 1x vbr-mp3
For Audio A I choose 128 kbit/s for the bitrate, while leaving the Size blank.
And for the transcoding parameters in the last step, I use Doom9's custom parameters.

Also, would somebody know why Compressibility Check doesn't work after I select now. The program seems to go through some process, but after its done, there is no value under load, in the Bits/(Pixel*Frame) window.

Thanks!
