View Full Version : "File is not a valid dvd2avi project" error in GKnot .23

I am running Windows XP Pro. I had to reinstall Windows after a MB swap. Now when opening a dvd2avi project in the GKnot GUI I get: "File is not a valid dvd2avi project (v1.76, YUV2)". I did not have this problem before.

I reinstalled Windows without formatting, but I did not do a "repair", the Windows directory was deleted.
I installed GKnot .21 then the .23 update.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

The same here! My GKnot is not able to open any DVD2AVI project since XP reinstall. I don't understand why!!!
I reinstalled XP after formatting.

I'm really sad! :(

Hey I've solved the problem
I only copied gknot files from the download archive over my GKnot folder. Now it works...But why? Files were not any different.

Anyway I can encode again :D :D :D

I have this same problem. I have another HD with winME in it. So I pulled out my winXP HD and swapped it with my winME. I had all the VOB's on my 80 gig D: drive. I downloaded the exact same files from doom9.net, installed them exactly the same way. Ran through the same exact steps in my winME hd to make and load the Dvd2Avi project, and it worked. I ripped the same exact movie I was having problems with in winXP. So, I just don't get it.

In winXP I tried it in a clean boot, safe mode, enabled vga mode. I tried installing gnot in a different directory. I tried removing the registry keys (using the button in gnot) and tried again. Still didn't work. Any ideas?

Well I had the same problem and here is how I solved it:

- Uninstall every divx codec
- Uninstall Huffyuv
- Go in the registry, delete ALL the keys with the string "divx", as well as Dwords, String and Binary values. (should be around 20 entries)
- Overwrite Gknot with a COMPLETE install (including codecs etc.)
- Install the Pro Codec from divx.com*

*I don't know if the bundle made by Doom9 works with my method though. It should be.

It worked with me.
I'm under win2000, SP2.

Good luck!

If someone found a shorter way to do it, let me know!!

After I switched back to my HD that had winXP, I tried to play the two movies I ripped using my winME drive. The movies wouldn't play back correctly, just black and green blocks. So, I just did like Sephiros said, except for the registry entries. Now the movies play back fine and I can open DVD2AVI projects. So, uninstalling and reinstalling should fix it for anyone that has this same issue. Well, at least it worked for me. Thanx for the help.

Happy it worked :)

In my case, if I wasn't doing the registry clean up by myself, it wouldn't work in anyways...

Interesting to know though :)
