Min & Max Bitrate limit in Curve Compression?

Hi all :)

Is it useful to make a new setting in curve compression (during 2pass)
so we can set the max and the min bitrate used (like a lower pass and a high pass in Nandub )? I think it's useful for 2 or more cd movie.

I'd like to know how to set a max bit rate.

Sometimes the limiting factor isn't the file size but, for larger resolutions, whether your computer can play it fast enough.

Is there any way to do this?

No, I'm afraid not. Have you considered flattening the curve instead? Very big frames are unlikely to occur if big frames get compressed at high quantizers. Try a curve compression like ... 40? Or better, use the alt. curve settings and try the low aggressiveness setting with a standard 'strength'. [Now that I read Foxer's explanation again, I guess that medium or high agressiveness would be better... This new curve thing still confuses me...] If necessary, lower the strength. Best use debugview to see if big frames get downscaled enough for your purposes.

Uhhh, that pretty well sums it up for me too. ;)

I have a vague feeling that it would help put caps on the bit rate but the whole issue looked like I'd have to be more of a compression maestro and G'knot verteran to feel comfortable with it.

I've just been playing with putting min quants on I-frames and such. Xvid can do great HDTV compression but heavy frames will make it stutter on playback.

But I'll go back and read thru this again.
