I've searched this board for the problem I'm having, and couldn't find it. Everytime I open an MPEG file in VirtualDub, I always get the following error :

MPEG Import Filter : Pack Synchronization Error

I can't open any MPEG files, MPEG-1, or 2. Most of my MPEG file are recorded directly from my TV Tuner card, (GeForce 2 MX 400 Personal Cinema) and I've tried many different Bitrates and other settings for recording, but to no avail. Any ideas?

You cannot open MPEG2 files in Vdub - read the FAQ. Sorry I can't help you otherwise.

But I should be able to open MPEG-1 files, correct? even they do not open...

Yes it can open MPEG1 files... try running it thru VCDEasy on the MPEG->MPEG option with "correct bad blacks" on.

I had the same problem with bad mpeg-1 files. I tried your suggestion but could not find the mpeg->mpeg option or the fix bad blocks in VCDEasy 1.0.9

However, I did find similar options in VCDGear so give that a try for anyone who has packet sync errors when opening mpeg-1 files in virtual dub, it worked for me!
