Hello all,
I decided to start the new thread here for the old one (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8508) has many old postings and is hard to read already.
So the new version is out and you can take it at http://divx4log.narod.ru. You are as always welcome to report bugs :)

did you have a look at the guide I sent you? I can be pretty impatient so I published it anyways but if you have some comments an suggestions I will certainly listen.

ummm.... does the zone-thing work properly now?
I mean, if i set 20/20 20/20 for the endcredits-zone, do i get the expected low bitrates?

I think so, but no one can say for sure ;)

Hey!
I'm sorta confused as to how the divx4log file calculates the total size of the expected file. I'm opening a Divx5 file BTW. Where can I find the total size of the compressed file?
Sorry I know its a newb question, but I looked at looked and couldn't match any of the numbers.
Thanks!

I just downloaded bugfix version.
I found out an interesting thing while testing this version. I divided a clip into three zones with distinctive different quantizer limits. Then I kept an eye on the statistics while the encoding ran. The average bitrate walked up and down like I expect. The quality of the resulting movie as well. But the analyse.log indicated "new quant" mostly the same. So I think that those who want to make comprehensive test must not rely on analyse.log but on movie quality.

Are you shure that is a sound methode? I highly doubt it.
Maybe i will try something soon, but remember that i discovered this thing in the first place *because* the quality of the frames didnt change at all. That was with endcredits. That was when i started to do some testing to push the quant-limits to the limit. I first used the values Everwicked suggested, but got far too big endcredit-frames, so i entered higher values etc. But it just didnt help a bit. That was with version 42 if i remember right.
Watching the statistics window it was clear to me that that what i saw there was the same as the analyse file showed me later, namely no change at all. The 'new quant' in analyse.log was the one used for the frame.

I don't see the benefit of DivX4log anymore when using DivX5, 'cause DivX5 is 100% predictable. Or have I missed something?

In my tests I saw quality difference now (with 0.46 version). It uses the formula you told me (doubling the complexity values for higher quantizers). Now complexity is calculated from desired quantizer as a*q**2+b*q+c, so I will try to improove this formula according to your feedbacks. After your first post about Morphix' formula I tried q**2, but it was not very good.

Imagine that you have mixed film and computer animation (10th Kingdom, for example). It will be good idea to have high bitrate for animation and lower bitrate for filmed scenes. And very low bitrate for credits. If you will tell us how to achieve this with DivX 5 without any utils, we all will be very thankful, for I will stop the divx4log project and dedicate all time to XviD.

Well, DivX5 is already using variable bitrate, so I presume every scene will get what it deserves.
And I encode Credits always separately with quality based 0% and append them later to the movie, so this wouldn't be a major problem

ahh that sounds promising!
I dont have much time right now. i have some lousy exam for my work, but i think i can do some tests soon. Probably in the weekend.

DivX 4 uses variable bitrate too. And with DivX 5 I still have some problems with 10th Kingdom: animation looks worse with a bitrate of 1000 even.
