Can we manually edit audio in DVD2SVCD?

Hi, as you might suspect, i'm a newbie in the svcd world and i'm experimenting with dvd ripping for 2 weeks now. The DVD2SVCD is a very nice program to work with, but the only problem that i have is with sound(still far better than with TMPGenc). At first, the audio was hissing in the background(like a poor encoded mp3 file). I found, by changing the settings in BeSweet(not with DVD2SVCD, but externally),that i was able to get good results(by disabling NORMALIZATION and BOOSTING). Those settings,by default in DVD2SVCD, seems to accentuate audio compression artifacts(kind of hissing). My question is: can we manually edit BeSweet settings in DVD2SVCD?
In the log file i can see those settings: -azid(-L 3db -c none -s setero) -ota( -g max -d 334) -2lame(-e -b 224 -m s)

I would like to disable the "-g max" in ota, but i can't figure out how to edit it since we can't in the DVD2SVCD gui. (in notepad? and with what file? dvd2svcd.ini?)

btw, i've improved some stuff in the latest beta of BeSweet, so you might wanna test it too.

Unfortunately, i couldn't find how to create a batch file in the "dvd2svcd hacks" thread. Using the new beta version of BeSweet(using the gui), i can produce very good mp2 audio file(from ac3). The best settings for getting rid of the squeal effect were: Azid---» (-z1 -b1 -s surround -L 2db) and i checked gain---» 5 db. No SSRC ; No Boost; 2Lame---» (-m s -b 224 -e) and No Ota settings.
The problem is that i'm not comfortable to do all the steps of creating svcd's separately. DVD2SVCD is a useful tool, but i would like to see more options to controle the settings, especially the audio part. The BeSweet gui is perfect for that, but not the one in DVD2SVCD.
That's why i'd like to use a batch file for the audio part in DVD2SVCD. Is it possible? and how?

gain of 5db is quite alright :). still i would suggest normalizing.
if that's too loud for you, and you only want 85% of the maximum gain, use :
-azid( -g max ) -ota( -g 0.85 ) .

Ok, i would like to try, but how to set that in DVD2SVCD since the log file indicates that the "- g max" setting is in ota? That's why i want to make a batch file. Is there another way?

Correct me if I am wrong, the work around is, when the movie encoding started, just rerun the besweet command with the desire switches. The new audio file will be ready to be mux-ed once the encoding completed.

Hope the author will make some changes to incoporate the new besweet options and maybe, maybe he will make some enhancement so that the options can be altered from dvd2svcd. At the moment looks like most are harcoded.

If you do not alter the length of the string, you can change values in the DVD2SVCD.EXE-file by means of a hexeditor. I have changed the sizes of the upper and lower black bars, for instance.

There was a message from DVD2SVCD where he explicitly prohibits the distribution of any hacked files, but does not mind if you change them for your personal use.

Almost all the options for controlling besweet is already in dvd2svcd (hint hint, use the dropdown box next to the besweet.exe input files), however, I do not see the need for disabling -g x (x= either max or a number of your choice).

I've already use that scroll down menu next to besweet.exe line, but it's for Azid settings. Anything for OTA like in the BeSweet gui. And the reason i'm asking is that i found that by disambling the (- g x) in ota, the squealing background sound was almost gone. I repeat, the sound from dvd2svcd, with the default settings, is not excellent. It's becoming anoying, and i hope i'm not the only one who notice this. With headphones, it's even obvious! Even if the result is better in dvd2svcd (using BeSweet) than the sound from TMPGenc, it still not meet my expectations. All settings proposed in the svcd guide, gave me the same results. I think i'll try to familiarize with doing all the steps by myself...

Can you edit manually batch file for audio for DVD2SVCD, because I woud probe SVCD with Multichannel MPEG, In besweet is no problem, but I can't edit batch file for audio encoding under DVD2SVCD, Anybody help me?

Hi there,

as kydongau already suggested, just start your conversion as usual but if the audio conversion is finished, then just copy the BeSweet coomand line from the "dvd2svcd_log.txt" file and change the switches as desired, hit "Start/Run..." from TaskBar, paste it over there and hit ENTER - that's it.

Now the audio will be done using your paramters and it will sure finish right before the video encoding step has finished and will be muxed into it at the cutting and muxing step.

Or just wait for the whole conversion to be finished and then do the above with the BeSweet command options. Then recover from "Muxing and Cutting step" and all will be fine. This will give you about 30-45 minutes extra time in the end but you can check your MP2 if it satisfies your needs.
