i buyed the c't today and found the article about [en]Vogue.
didn't read it yet, just looking over it atm. but caus i never heard about [en]Vogue and so theres just one reason: APRIL APRIL! (so we say in germany)
this was not the best april-joke from them, but it worked with u :D

well as i red i gets more and more funny:
c't (german pc-mag) says(as i can translate):

divX hack makes fileize only 50% of normal, with so called "facelets". means that main characters of movies are saved in seperate files from witch they where loaded whenever they were needed in the scene. (as i understood the "article")
they even renamed a file to replace a character in the movie terminator 2 to give an example of funny things u could do.

at the end of the article the think about a possible nude patch for these facelet-files. well that would be very nice in the tombraider movie :cool:

as i think about while typing this, imho its one of the best april-jokes they ever made.

I found out that it was a joke a short time after posting this, but I did not find out, how to delete the thread. So I was very embaressed about my stupidness :-((
now that I know it was a joke, I can't believe how I fall for it, because there are many things that are jut not logical:
Who the fuck writes a program that should run quickly in Java??
and the Filesize sounded strange, too.
but I guess I was blinded, because I thought of the great things you could do with this.

But you're right, It's a very good joke :-)

Occasionally Doom9 cleans up the database by removing old and redundant threads. This will could your post-count to go down if you posted on one of those threads.

Hey, slayer, don't be concerned about falling for it, c't has fooled the best of us at other occasions. :)

A friend of mine even told his boss about a very 'sensational' article in c't once. :D

At least, not the whole article might be a joke... searching the web for a few tags (like "Video Object Generation") resulted in more links than I would expect for an april joke. And if the whole MoMuSys project is a joke, too (1380 hits in google), then it would have been planned for months...

I heard about a "sprite" compression model in MPEG4/MPEG7 already a year ago, therefore I believe that such a technology is at least seriously planned, if not already implemented in any more or less successful way. But the "hack" for DivX5 shall be a hoax (until its functionality is proven).

Finally, I wonder in which kind of "pertinent DivX forums" the author of this article wanted to have found information about [en]VOGUE; at least not here, and this is the mother of all DivX forums... :D

I read the c't article this morning. Honest, I came here to check whether there is a discussion going on about this 'new' undocumented feature of DivX 5. So I must say this joke was really, really convincing. Well, I don't know who of you read the original German article, but it is written in a *very* professional way. Even the remaining 'bugs' of this way of fitting in redundant data sounded absolutely sensible.

I was wondering that I missed such an 'exciting' new way to drop down file size even more. O.K, April, April!

Don't tell the other people that didn't read this article yet... they can find out on their own. And right, this is the mother of all DivX forums.
