Complete befuddlement(yes it's in the dictionary)

Newbie thru and thru!! I dl a movie from the Net(...ahem). It's in avi format but the audio is in ac3. I have read thru the tuts and the faqs and....whatever but for the love of buddah,god and allah and all the deities I can't figure out why:
1) No sound when playing in WMP(yes installled the audio.zip; cked that they were installed then removed the MSSwitch)
2) Yes got the 6.4 version of WMP.
3) Yes tried the players.
4)Can't get to the faq or guide that would let me strip the ac3 and convert to wav and then encode thru Tmpgenc to SCVD or even VCD.

PIII 800MHZ
1.3GB RAM
Sound Blaster Audio PCI

I have 1 Q and ! Only. Would some1 PLEASE let me KN how to get the ac3 out of the avi file , so that I can convert it to wav or even PCM(that I KN) and then I can make a SCVD/VCD and play the movie on my Pioneer 344.

try dvd2svcd in avi2svcd mode. read all the faq's and stickies in the forum(and the guides/references they link to) and you should be fine.
