nero problems

hi guys been using nero to write all my vcd,s to disc but it,s started to play up a bit, for example when writing at x8 i get buffer under runs all the time but not whaen x4 and if i copy a vcd it locks my drive at the lead in/ lead out point. oh yer i,m using a matshita writer thats usually ok
maybe because i have been storing some on my drive about 10gb worth , defragged today with no change aswell

This is a Computer problem and not a general one but here it go's.

The problem sound like somthething depriving the IDE bus from it's resources.
It might be a driver update that you installed, a new program installed, hardware change and more.

You need to remember where this errors started and try to think what you did from that point.
Also check that the computer settings for DMA/PIO and such are set correct and did not changed themselves.

thats for the intrest in my problem, i think it may have been when i installed region killer for my dvd drive as it seemed to locate the writer as my default drive. I have uninstalled it now but to no avail the writer still plays up ther same.
Looks like a format and start again unless anyone has any ideas.

It seems like you have two distinct problems here:

1)

This sounds to me like one of two problems:

1) You're burner is wearing out. I know my first 8x burner burned fine for a year or so, then would only burn at 4x, then 2x....finally I gave in and bought a 24x :)

2) You're system resources are too little to burn at a higher speed. This may be caused by several things: you could be using more RAM by running more programs in the background, you could have a memory leak (typical in Win98, WinME OS's), etc....

Unfortuneatly the first solution requires you to lay out cash for a new burner, which is a last ditch resort. The second solution is better: check your system for any memory-hogging programs, spyware, etc...running in the background without you knowing. Run antivirus, maybe you picked up a trojan using your system resources. Try a RAM-cleaner (check CNET downloads) to free up RAM in case of a memory leak (not going to explain this if you don't already know). Install more RAM.

Clarification here. Are you Copying a VCD or Burning it? The difference is your source.

Are you copying a VCD disc, like a disc to disc copy? If so then your problem could simply be your CD-ROM/DVD drive not reading the data correctly, scratched disc, etc....

If you are burning the VCD from an mpg file on your hard drive, that's different. The lead in/lead out point is where the software is finalizing the disc, right? That could also be indicative of a resource problem, some sort of buffer underrun at the last second of burning.

Try burning at a lower speed, 2x or even 1x. Turn off all programs while burning. Try setting the burning program a higher priority in your OS.

You shouldn't have to format your hard drive for this problem....
