CCE and Mpeg1 VBR

I've been using CCESP for some time now creating VCDs and XVCDs and I was wondering if I could use VBR Mpeg1 streams instead of CBR ones to make a VCD.
Will this work? Has anyone tried it?

A VCD with VBR MPEG-1 material on it is considered to be non-standard, and may not work in all players. They're called XVCDs, and you can find a DVD player compatibility list on vcdhelp.com.
