Help with Movie Interlaced and Progressive

Im trying to rip the vista series version of The Sixth Sense, when I scan it with DVD2AVI it keeps switching very fast back and forth from Interlaced to Progressive. Now I went ahead and saved the project, and tried to rip it, but the sound is out of synch. So I went back in and changed the frame rate thinking that might have been the cause, and got it synched, but later on in the movie it is out of synch again. Do I need to use IVTC for this movie possibly to make it in synch? One other wierd thing, per the guidelines on installing TMPGenc, and Aviutil, I installed those correctly, but if I go to convert a d2v with VFAPI, it doesnt do it, I set the options at default for it, but it never saves the file like it is supposed to be doing. It acts like it is going to process it but doesnt, because I never get a % complete like it did before, what am I doing wrong, grrr!!!
