i encoded a divx4 movie with mp3 vbr in gordian knot, and, since the audio was slightly out of sync i opened the file in nandub to correct the delay.
however when pressing the input button, i get the picture but onlysome 3 seconds choppy audio and then nothing. when pressing the output button i get only audio but no picture. any ideas

he he, a common newbie quandarry.
By input and ouput I will assume that you meant the input play and the output play.
When you press input play...nandub/vdub CAN NOT play the video up to full speed. Especially with mp3 audio. I beleive that it loads a little bit of the audio and plays it, the three seconds you described, and will play it choppy. nandub/vdub is NOT a DivX player. In other words...what you described is natural, it just can't play the video and audio at the same time in real time.
When you press output play, it can't POSSIBLY apply all the filters in real time unless when you encode you get 24fps encodin, which if you do.. I want your computer. So in other words again....what you descibed is natural.
The solution?
1. load your video and audio
2. Put video AND audio on direct stream copy
3. save your avi, and open it in windows media player.
The best way to sync up audio and video is described in doom9's guides. Basically open up your audio in an audio editing program like sound forge and find a big SLAM, find the same slam int he video and see how much they differ from and then just offset the audio by that much

This does not seem to be true if CBR mp3 is concerned. I have a number of movies with that sound format, and, they play flawlessly in realtime in virtual-/nandub. Is it that :stupid: or is there anything I can do about it?

quite possibly. I haven't used CBR mp3 since my haydays with Flask :) I'm pretty sure thought with vbr it will not work. But I really don't know if there is a difference between the two and weither or not they will play in RT.
