Hi,
I am trying to produce SVCDs with selectable subtitles,
but in so far I am unsure what happens ...
Either I do it badly, either my DVD is not able to show
them, either ... As I cannot check them in my PC and I cannot rely on any test sample, I cannot get out.
So, I need a test sample. I have looked for over
all places for a reliable one but I am unsure. Could somebody point or make one for me?
Specs: PAL, SVCD subtitles. 30 to 60 seconds minimum.
If possible, 2 audio stereo streams.
Also have another question. As I try to get a movie with
2 audio streams and selectable subtitles, I have an issue of exceeding standard bit rate. I have tried to find out what says the standard concerning audio bit rate. Audio bit rate shall be less than 384kbps, but shall each stereo stream be less or equal to 192kbps in case of two streams?
Which should be a good balance (for general movies) to reduce total bitrate, ie. further reduce audio bitrate and not video, or a little each? (by the way, where do I reduce the video bitrate, I have read several times the documentation and I am not able to do it, perhaps my poor english!).

You can reduce the video bitrate in the tab where you select the number of cd`s between a range of minutes. Reduce the maximum bitrate (at bottom) a bit to avoid this warning. I personnaly put it at 2400 and never got this warning again.

Not all DvD players can handle subtitles. Mine can handle multiple audio tracks but not subtitles. Check yours at this address: http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php

Thank you for the tip on bitrate.
I had already checked my SVCD in vcdhelp. But ... it is not determinant. It is (probably) a Great Wall DVD-800 karaoke sold in Spain under "Saivod" brand. Manual says it is VCD 1.0 and 2.0, as well as SVCD. It plays MP3, reads CDR and CDRW, both gold and blue. In vcdhelp appears, and people says bot it can play subtitles and it cannot play subtitles. But, are they speaking about permanent, China or SVCD? Can we rely on those people comments?
Please, further help is apreciated!
Thanks in advance

I *had* already tried, but, if you check:
a) European server is not delivering the samples. Anyhow,
although there are PAL, subtitles are CVD (China ones)
b) USA server: PAL sample is with CVD not SVCD; I tried the
NTSC (SVCD) unsucessfully. Perhaps is my unit? Perhaps
is the sample? Perhaps being NTSC? Perhaps a combination
of these?
I would highly appreciate if somebody that gets selectable subtitles in PAL, that is able to select and see them in an standalone DVD, could handle me a bit file for testing!

Again, thank to all,
