I saw that gordian knot can calculate the correct cropping settings
automatically. I think using DVD2AVI.
Is there something similar when encoding with mpeg2avi?
Maybe there is another way to get correct cropping sizes
without using the preview control of mpeg2avi.

Get Tsumani Parameter Calculator from here (http://users.forthnet.gr/ath/harryfou/tsunamicalc.zip) You will need PowerDVD (v3.0 at least) to get a screenshot first at the clipboard, and then TsunamiCalc will give you the proper resize/crop settings.
