How to create SVCD with DVD chapters?

hi,

i once created an svcd with dvd2svcd that had all the dvd chapters.
i cannot find this option anymore? is it already in smartripper or is there a tab in dvd2svcd where i can choose this.
the discs i now create, ocannot be switched between several chapters.

can anyone help me?

you must use internal routines to rip chapters.

I don't think he meant ripping chapters - I think he meant creating chapters. To create chapters that you can "switch to" as you say you should check off the VCDXBuild box in the CD Image tab of DVD2SVCD and make sure you check the button on the right for either DVD chapters or chapters of your own length. You will get bi/cue files created that you can burn with CDRWin, Nero or VCDEasy. If you are not getting chapters now you must be just dragging the MPG file created by DVD2SVCD into Nero's SVCD template.

Speaking of chapters I wonder how hard it could be for the makers of DVD2SVCD to "generate" a basic menu when authoring.

It think its very nice that the soft can already rip the same chapters found on the DvD and put a custom image at beginning/end. If it could go 1 step further and generate a menu with titles (using the custom image has background for example) that would be great. Maybe it could rip the same chapters titles from the DvD. Even if its not making a image for each chapters, just a basic menu it would be nice.

For image could it scan the video and at beginning of each chapters make a screen shot and use that has an image for the menu?

Just saying that cause I dont think I will take the time to author each SVCD I make manually. Too much time needed and I am a bit lazy :)

Hi, thanks. yes of course its quite easy to use the dvd2svcd soft, but i didnt find the chapter checkbox, because i chose vcdimager.
now that i chose vcdxbuild it all comes up to me again (?&%$(/).
BUT: doing it like that will end up in getting the images. i want to get several MPEG files (WITH CHAPTERS) that i can later put together on one SVCD with eg Nero, CDRWIN.
Its the futurama DVD collection. i want to have to episodes on one cd.
when that chapter-thing only depends on chosing vcdxbuil, it will only work on the whole IMAGE not the MPÜEG file itself...

The chapter-info is not in the MPEG-Stream, but in the .cue-file. So if your 'author' your MPEG-file with Nero, you will lose all the chpater-info, sorry.
