tv out with divx files

I have an aiw 8500dv card, and my captured movies that I compressed with divx will play fine on my pc, but when I try to use the tv out function [pc>tv] I get purple blotches all over the picture, they are not random,but kinda blended in?
this only seems to happen w/DivX.
any ideas?

Try going through your manual..have you tired watching DVD using your pc? If there any problem, I guess it has nothing to do with your DIVX file.

If there no problem, try going through your video card properties and check if TV output uses 50Hz...

I'm sure that will solve the problem but if 50hz doesn't work, try using 60 or 70Hz

dvd > tv works well, and tv is set @ 1024x768 60hz refresh,
I'm wondering if the compression may have zapped some of the color info?

most probably but keep exploring!!
I'm not having any problem with my card! everything seem to run properly! Try running others media player.

You can also try other format..like mpeg 1...see if that causes the same problem

I believe you got one of them bugged Radeon beta drivers, I was getting pink blotches in my captures with the 9021 betas, but omegacorner.com driver set fixed it, and still keep the new 9021 opengl icd for games. He has Win2kXP beta sets also if thats what you are running.

I think I read some posts of other people with this problem but I just glossed over them (as I just have a regular Radeon 8500). Still, go check the forums at www.rage3d.com and look around. You might be able to fix your problem there, those folks can be so inventive :)

try a resolution of
800 x 600 on your tv

1024 is far too high!

Hi Sarahjh69,

Why do you say that? I've been using that resolution to watch Divx encoded files for a long time and have not noticed any quality issues. I know some people suggest lowering the resolution of the display to VGA or 800X600 but I can't see any reason why you would. BTW I use a notebook.

Can you provide any reason why its better to lower the resolution when watching the output on a TV?

its best to go to a resolution near the tv-resolution (576 lines pal,480 ntsc).
reason is simple: your gfx chip scales your video up to 1024x768 and then the tv-out scales it down to tv resolution. really useless. and it costs quality.

btw, i also use 1024x768 but only because of the way to big overscan area at 800x600 (shitty KyroII chip) and during video playback its really hard to see a difference.

Well, now its not only DivX files, but all video files (dvd, mpegx, avi etc..).
I've try'd lots of different drivers, even the omega set, it seems to be getting worse.
