At the slight chance that I may not have read Q&A for the 21st time and everything is already answered there:
Trying to rip with DVD2SVCD build 4 and internal routiens on an Athlon 1.2Ghz running Windows XP DVD2SVCD bombs in AUTH.DLL.
I refrained from forwarding the error information to Microsoft (as suggested) but the dialog box stated they were nonetheless sorry for the inconvenience :D
Other movies work fine. This happens even after authentication with Intervideo (plays fine on Intervideo as well).
Please don't flame me (as has become far too commmon in this forum).

This happens to me when I don't have Force Aspi installed.
There is a link in the Q + A and also in the Doom9 download page.
I was able to rip AI no problem. Region 1 version on an AMD system with XP.
Moved to basic as normal questions belong there.

How is this a basic question? The user was using DVD2SVCD in a proper manner, and it crashed for no known reason. Advanced users, such as yourself, can speculate on the cause and possibly help, hence it belongs in the Advanced forum, doesn't it?
Anyway, as an advanced user, I realize that auth.dll is not technically part of the 'DVD2SVCD' code. Do we know what wrote auth.dll and/or is the source available? Perhaps the there is something that the advanced crew can do to get this problem corrected.

A qoute From the Forum structure post.
"while topics dealing with theory and advanced discussion go in Advanced Topics."
This topic is not dealing with theory or a discussion. This is a "I am having a problem." question. All questions regarding problems with standard settings belong in the basic section.
The forum is no longer broken into advanced users and beginners. It is now broken into advanced theory and discussions outside of the norm and general functionaility.
The question isn't basic, but it is a question on the basic functionaility of DVD2SVCD. If it goes into the depths and beyond the standard scope then it simply can be moved back.
If you have noticed the traffic in advanced is nowhere near what the traffic here is. So getting an answer to a problem is generally better off being posted here.

Fair enough, although I "personally" would consider your advise about ForceASPI 1.70 to be speculative theory -- based on the premise that his auth.dll crashed for the same reason as it did for you, it seems reasonable and likely that the solution that worked for you will also work for him.
I do agree that the moderators should use their subject discretion; my "personal" opinion differed, and I decided to make mention of this, to which you have clarified your perspective, which I do appreciate.
Thank You!

why do you use force aspi???
holy sweet mother of god, if you can decide whether you can insatll an unsupported-hacked-anddontknowwhatelse aspi (forceaspi), or an a certified-official-uptodate-alsofree aspi ( ADAPTEC ASPI LAYER v1.70) for all win oses, why would you choose to use forceaspi?????????????? please go to www.adaptec.com
and download it, please.-

Why, for most people it works fine and some people have problems with the Adaptec release. That's why.
I do agree you should try the official Adpatec release first. Which is what Mozart linked to I believe.
Until you have been around here for awhile and know the background of things I suggest you chill out a bit.
If it's your opinion not to use force aspi then say it politely and not mockingly.

actually, it is some sort of mixed version which has forceaspi AND adaptec's version 1.0.2.14, but not 1.7.
btw: I do agree with mark. Mato's behaviour is completely wrong here. Also, his report in the "add your player here" thread should be edited ASAP.
