American Pie 2 Issues

When I make a back up of AP2 using DVD2SVCD I get a weird problem. 1)The movie starts about 8-10 mins in (its the scene where they are leaving to go to the summer house) 2) The audio is also off by about 2-3 secs. I am not sure what is causing this problem. I am using DVD2SVCD 1.0.7 build 4. If you need anything else ask I will post it. Thanks Alot.

Hi Jason28,

we need at least the "dvd2svcd_log.txt" file in order to help you (See "MANDATORY READ..." on that). And me thinks, you needed to read some Q&A before.

Q48: I have been having sync and other problems with VOB files I have ripped with another ripper, like SmartRipper?
A: Always use the internal routines or the built in Vstrip unless you have no other choice. SmartRipper and other rippers are known to cause issues occasionally with DVD2SVCD. Hear some alarm bells ringing? ;)

on your audio tab, make sure its set to 0 on the offset


When I encoded my first movie, my sound was off and the offset was set to 2 seconds for some reason.

try to rip a chapter and see how it works

also sound can be off on computers if you use win media player to play it, try on a standalone dvd or dvd software

The reason that I didnt post my log is because I thought that it might be a common problem and someone would know the answer to it. I have read the Q and A I did not use smartripper to rip the files I used the internal ripper and when that didnt work I used vStrip and that did the same thing. Here is my log file:

I have not been able to try it on a standalone DVD mine is broken and I am in the process of getting a new one. Even if that wxplains why the sound is off, it still dosent explain when the movie starts a few mins in.

A couple of questions.

1 what are you using to watch the video? Software wise.

2. Do you still have the bbmpeg_muxed_file?.mpg files on your HD and does the lowest numbered one start in the right spot?

3 Do you still have the VOB files on your HD? If you do open them manually in DVD2AVI(it's in your DVD2SVCD folder) and see if the movie starts at the right spot. Alternately you could open the first VOB file in WinDVD or PowerDVD 4.0 and see if it starts at the right spot.

Lets see if we can't fix the way the movie starts and then deal with the out of sync audio later.

Do not change the audio offset from two seconds. That is done to fix issues with standalone players and is normally needed.

If the VOB's do not contain the whole movie try ripping with the supplied Vstrip and close DVD2SVCD after it has finished ripping and see if the whole movie is there.

1. I am using WinDVD version 3.1

2. Unfortunatly I do not have the files anymore. I ripped a few movies sense I posted this qeustion and I needed the space.

I will try to rip it tonight. Then I will see if the whole movie is there using both of the methods that you suggested. I will post my results as soon as I am done.

I have a feeling that the audio is out of whack because of where the movie starts to play. I think that if we could get the movie to start correctly then the sound would be correct.

Just kidding. 1 is good because many people try to play these files in Windows Media Player and 75% of the time the audio is out of sync and the video can mess up. Only try media player to check the video and don't rely on it to watch. This goes got the muxed.mpg and vob files as well.

2 It's too bad I would like to have known if the original VOB files were ok.

Sorry that it took me so long to get back, I have been pretty busy in the last few days. Well I had the opportunity to upgrade my main machine and I decided to do that. I took the extra parts that I had left over and I built a SVCD machine. I ripped American Pie 2 again using Vstrip and I left everything else at the default settings. I was able to burn the CD with no problems. I am at a loss as to what happened the last time. So I am all set. Thanks for all the help markb.
